Karl offered the following response via Facebook: (thanks pal)

I can't comment on the wordpress so would offer this:

1) Certain government depts will not allow storage of any of their data outside of the UK which may impact remote email/storage of research data

2) The responsibility of the IP of anything stored remains with the university and will probably be excluded as a responsibility as part of the T&C's ... Read moreof the hosting firm. If it is that important then encrypt it.

3) Worth thinking through some modified storage, retention and archiving policies particularly for email accounts. it may be necessary to have access to material long after the account is no longer used.

4) Would also be worth looking at the current use of attachments for emails on the current system and extrapolate its impact in terms of web access. I email a 20MB video over my gigabit backbone it makes no difference - a few people doing same over remote mail could be a much larger impact. Possible use of packet shaping boxes?

I'm sure being 100% premade will not prevent nubcakes, but it's always good to be optimistic.
The enemy limit is to discourage unofficial alliances and family tribes. You only have a very select amount of players you can attack, so it is hugely disadvantageous to help another tribe with their wars.

Loving the included Use Case Amy!

The tribes would be 100% premade though, so no chance of nubcakes joining up ;)

The suggested settings are good, although I don't see a point in not having more then two enemies?

I would love to be able to pick exactly who I start with for once rather than joining up blindly and hoping I am lucky, and I like the idea of the final loss of village being IT. I'm sure people would join up on pseudonyms, but to do that, they would have to start in an entirely different tribe with 4 new people.

What with the 5 member limit, you would need some pretty tough settings to make the server family-tribe-proof... Rest assured somebody will look at the tribe limit after joining the world blindly and think, 5 MEMBERS??? kidding much?? and start up a 100-branch family tribe with 100 branches of 5 players each.
No "honest" player with 5 members to their tribe would have much of a chance against such an alliance, even if the 5 playing were clinical insomniacs with 20 years of playing TW between them.

I propose the following settings on a world like this:
1. Cannot support/supply members outside the tribe
2. May only have a max of 2 enemies.
3. No alliances or NAPs.
4. May not attack tribes not on the enemy list.

It would be practically tribalhugger proof. To show why I suggest these settings, I'll imagine for a bit that I'm a would-be family tribe duke. Or WFTD to his friends.

WFTD: omg just luk @ this wurld onli been opund 2 daiz n alredi sum ppl has lyk 500 pointz in der tribes????
his tribemate: hmmm wel mai-b we shud ask our nayborz if dey will join our tribe ^^

WFTD: hay naybor will u join my tribe????
"naybor": Sorry mate, you can't leave or join tribes and the member limit is 5 ;)
WFTD: omfg u kiddin me. den how i ment to get moor pointz?
"naybor": How about you invest time and effort in the game, and -
WFTD: omfg i has a gud idea. i make alyances wiv EVERY1 so no1 wil atak us :] we wil be SAIF. Naybor, wil u b our ally trieb???
"naybor": I'm sorry. Allies are not possible on this world and if they were, we'd pick people who can type using more than one finger at a time.
WFTD: kk so i wont maik u our famili trieb but wil u atak the saim targtz as us n suport us in tiems of waR???
"naybor": Did you even read the world settings before joining? We are only allowed to attack enemies on our enemy list, and right now, we are saving those spaces for people we farm.
Like YOU.

So in other words, allies wouldn't be able to co-ordinate attacks OR defence. Having a huge family tribe would mean nothing, besides their ridicule, naturally ;)

The next problem would be if your members fell inactive. It'd be unfair on whoever was left over. I can't think of a solution for that... maybe test people before entering the world for an excess of social life. :P

Congratulations, Tim. :) I wish you the very best of luck with everything. I look forward to reading more of your stuff. Hope to see you around the forum at some point too.

By the way, I tried signing up to this place just using my real first name and family initial (Rob B.), but it wouldn't allow it, so I just went with the old "Nico73" handle.

Sincerely,
Rob B.

Tim,

I play w10 in SET and we're having great fun mopping the
floor with Die. .
Too bad your great attack failed, your allies left you out
in the dark..
Anyway, this post is about the end of a world.
I've written many times in the w10 forum that the greatest
fault of this game is the lack of a clear end.
I'll repeat here what I said:
in mature world there should be a time-frame (which could
be 1 month now in w2) after which only the top 100
tribes (for example) are left and any other tribes is disbanded (and no more tribes are allowed to be made
after that).
All players outside these tribes will go barbarian.

This way the "cut-throat month" will be highly interesting,
with all smaller tribes taking their chance to grow at any
cost. Most alliances would go to ashes and soon there
will be wide-spread war.
